The Fraser Valley Venom competed in the U10 Mite Championship at Squint Lake Park in Burnaby recently, winning gold in the B Division.
There were 20 teams from around the province competing in fastpitch play.
The Venom went 2-2 during round-robin competition, placing them second in the division.
They went on to secure wins over Coquitlam and Richmond in the playoffs, which landed them in the gold medal game against South Surrey White Rock (SSWR).
In the final, the score remained tied 7-7 after six, leading to extra innings.
In the seventh, both teams were held scoreless.
The top of the eighth then saw SSWR notch four runs, but the Venom battled back, bringing home five in the bottom to push past their opponents, 12-11.
The girls also won first place in the team spirit competition.
The Venom squad was made up of Mite players from Abbotsford and Chilliwack’s minor fastball associations.
