Vernon Camels slip by Monashee Surveying

Vernon Camels brush back Monashee Surveying 3-2 in North Okanagan Soccer League play on a blustery Wednesday night at Marshall Field #5.

The Hi-Pro Sportswear Camels brushed back Monashee Surveying 3-2 in North Okanagan Soccer League play on a blustery Wednesday night at Marshall Field #5.

Humpback goals came from Fabrice N’Dri, Enzo Paal and Albert Goldnik.

N’Dri showed a great first touch and delivered an amazing left-foot volley for the first snipe. Monashee, whose 11th man showed up late, enjoyed some early chances with power forward Nathan Martel getting the best of the Camels’ defence but shooting wide.

Paal made it 2-0 early in the second half off a sloppy corner clearing by Monashee.

Monashee made things interesting when latecomer Rodney Goodchild received great service from Kevin Shaw and slotted a bender home.

Monashee got a chance to level the score when Martel was taken down in the box. Devon Marriott stepped up but was stoned by keeper Ryan Campbell.

The Camels quickly countered with Goldnik finishing for the 3-1 goal. Minutes later, Martel buried a nifty feed from Shaw.

Arrowhead Electric Man of the Match for the Camels went to Keenan Jespersen for outstanding hustle all night.

Okanagan Spirits Man of the Man for Monashee went to Dave Henry, who scored last week but was put in goal, and made big saves down the stretch.

North Enderby Timber grounded the Vernon Riot FC 3-1 at Marshall #2.

NET opened the scoring early after a cleats-up tackle inside the 18 awarded Danny Stein a penalty shot. Stein beat keeper Mat Catton off the inside of the left post.

The Riot fired back with a 25-yard Menno Burnet strike off the crossbar and just over the goal line.

A well-placed drop kick from Timber keeper Brent Poulsen gave Brodie Couch the opportunity for a great through ball to Evan Frederick, who capitalized, pushing NET into the lead again.

Couch played another sweet ball to Frederick, who bested two players and scored with some highlight-reel moves before the half.

Poulsen stood out in goal with regular starters Danny Stein and Brynden Buckham proving to be multi-talented offensively. Chris Ovens and Sean Lister controlled the centre midfield for the second-place Timber (6-3). The Riot dipped to 2-5-2.

Turn-Key Controls scored early and often in ambushing the host Salmon Arm Outlaws 10-1.

Marco Arnold opened the scoring when his cross from the left wing found an Outlaws foot for a goal. Taylor Horsting, Nathan Tucker and Nolan’s Pharmasave Man of the Match Preston Tucker (2) rounded out the first-half offence.

The second half saw much the of the same with an overmatched Outlaws squad continuing to battle. Turn-Key switched their lineup, and first-half keeper Jeremy Kler recorded his first goal of the season off a great cross from defender Bryce Paterson.

Tucker completed his hat trick soon after by showing off his UBCO Heat volleyball alumni form with a skyscraper move to head home a Kler cross.

Defender Sam Nolan found some space and unleashed a howitzer from the 18 that went top left corner.

Brothers Thomas and Andrew Pool finished the scoring in support of Carson Haywood-Farmer, who made the Total Restoration Save of the Match on one of the few Outlaws’ chances late in the second half, in his goalkeeping debut.

Concept Physio/Peters Tirecraft had their three-game unbeaten streak snapped in a 5-1 loss to NOSL-leading Courvas in Salmon Arm.

Despite having no substitutes, the Tirecraft crew hung on as long as they could before succumbing to the 8-1 Courvas.

A great effort by the defensive core of Kyle Richardson, Justin Mitchell, Jason Van Boven and Matt Vanderhosrt kept Courvas from running away with it early.

Burger King Man of the Match Riley Spraggs made some phenomenal saves, holding Courvas to a 1-0 lead at the half.

Knowing that Courvas would eventually wear them down through the middle, Tirecraft changed their formation at the break. Dropping veteran Robert Spraggs back to the middle proved to be a good decision as he chipped a ball over the defenders for Mo Haliru, who sidestepped the keeper and equalized.

Tirecraft (1-6-2) held on for 80 minutes before fatigue set in and Courvas finished them off with a late flurry of goals.
