The Vernon Christian Royals fell just short of gaining a provincial wildcard berth in Wednesday night senior girls volleyball action.
The Royals opened the three-team round-robin in Kelowna by bouncing Boundary Central Roadrunners of Midway 2-1 (24-26, 25-22,15-11).
“We were up in each set but allowed the other team to crawl back into it,” said Royals’ coach Jason Reedyk.
The Aberdeen Hall Gryphons of Kelowna swept Boundary 25-20, 25-16, setting up a rematch of last weekend’s Valley semifinal between the Royals and the Gryphons.
The Gryphons took the match 2-0 (26-24, 25-22) with both teams going on large runs in each set. The Royals were up 24-23 in the first set and failed to close it out.
“I am very proud of how hard our girls worked this season,” said Reedyk. “This was a great learning experience to build on next season with the returning players.”
The Seaton Sonics stopped the VSS Panthers in straight sets Monday night to claim the North Zone Grade 8 boys title.
“While we had a great season, the other teams had amazing improvement and made us work for every point,” said Seaton head coach Daralee Morris.
The Sonics grounded Vernon Christian in the semifinals.
The Sonics are: Elijah Burnham, Lee Christensen, Chris Haber, Landon Harison, Chris McIntosh, Nick Maglio, Carter Morris, Nakota Parker, Tate Priebe and Simon Ufimzeff.
