The Vernon Christian Royals rolled over the competition to earn their second-ever Okanagan Valley senior A boys volleyball championship title.

In pool play, the Royals overpowered the Chase Trojans 25-6, 25-8. Outside hitter Travis Hoogland led the team with eight kills, while Tim Bartel chipped in with three, plus a trio of solo blocks.

The Royals manhandled the Clearwater Raiders, 25-9, 25-11, with setter Zac Dubland distributing the ball to outside hitter Ryan Price (five kills) and Tristan Quiring (three kills).

The Royals met the Raiders again in the final, with Dubland providing three aces in a 25-8 first set. Tom Wolgram provided key digs from the back row.

The Raiders led for much of the second set, but the Royals came back with solid right-side attacks from Cole Kitagawa and kills from the left side from both Hoogland and Price, taking the set 25-23.

Colton Doesburg also chipped in with a pair of points and a service ace.

Libero Jake Thiessen delivered some solid back-row passing in the final set to allow the Royals to collect the title with a convincing 25-14 victory.

The Royals enter provincials as the fourth seed. The B.C. championships go Nov. 21-23 at Duncan Christian School.
