A total of four Vernon golfers have qualified for the 2011 B.C. Men’s Amateur, July 12-15, at The Dunes in Kamloops.
Brad Jones was seventh in a field of 52 and top local, with rounds of 72-78-150 at Canoe Creek Golf Course in Salmon Arm. Jones had the second-low round, behind winner Cody Bell of Salmon Arm (71-73-144) on Monday.
Kowan O’Keefe of Shuswap Lake Estates was runner-up at 73-73-146, followed by Shawn Vanderwal of Kamloops, at 74-72-146, and Chad Belbin of Kamloops, at 74-73-147.
Connor Kozak and Justin Wurz, both of Vernon, shared 14th spot at 76-77-153, while Vernon’s David Szestopalow tied for 20th at 79-76-155, to also earn a berth in the B.C. Amateur.
Meanwhile, Hillview pro Keith Vandenbrink shot a 2-over 74 Monday in the Golden Pro-Am, pocketing $600.
Vandenbrink recorded four birdies, but had a triple-bogey seven on his second-last hole after missing the fairway with his drive. He also had ne $20 skin.
Scott Shouldice shot a 70 to win the pro division, three strokes up on Dan Cameron of Calgary.
