Team B.C.’s hockey roster for the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer includes a Vernon player.
Steel Quiring is one of 19 Western Hockey League players named to the squad that will compete for gold. The Games run Feb. 15 to March 3, with hockey beginning Feb. 16. The gold-medal game is slated for Feb. 22.
Quiring will be one of the top offensive threats for B.C. He has compiled nine goals and 15 assists in his first 17 games with the B.C. Major Midget AAA Hockey League’s Okanagan Rockets. The Kelowna Rockets hold Quiring’s WHL rights.
Fellow Major Midget League forward Logan Stankoven of Kamloops (Kamloops Blazers) is also expected to carry the offensive load for B.C. The fifth-overall pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft has 26-22-48 in 20 games for the Thompson Blazers.

The province’s history in men’s hockey at the Canada Winter Games includes two medals of each colour, with their last medal a golden performance at the 2011 edition of the tournament in Halifax.
