Vernon Judo club reaches podium

Vernon Judo Club records eight medals at B.C. Judo Championships in Abbotsford.

The Vernon Judo Club recorded eight medals at the B.C. Judo Championships last weekend in Abbotsford.

Being the club’s first tournament of the year, coaches George Okazaki, Dean Yakura, Lisa Nakajima, Bryan McLachlan, Aubrey Comley (referee) and Donna Hanson (referee) were pleased with the results of all their athletes.

Earning gold in their respective divisions were Nadine Bondt (Under 12 Girls), Joshua McLachlan (U12 Boys), Brendan Yakura (U16 Boys, 55kg) and Gabriel McLachlan (U16 Boys, 90kg).

Sydney Grevatt (U16 Juvenile Women), Natasha Brand (U18 Cadet Women) and Trudy Brand (Senior Women) pocketed silver, and Mason Bondt (U12 Boys) and Bryan McLachlan (Senior Men) each collected bronze.

Brendan Yakura is headed to the Quebec Open starting Wednesday.
