The Vernon Panthers used a strong second half to thump the visiting Westsyde Blue Wave of Kamloops 41-6 in Okanagan Junior Varsity High School Football League action Wednesday at Greater Vernon Athletics Park.
Both teams were guilty of turnovers in the first half.

With the win, the Cats improved to 2-0 while the Blue Wave sunk to 0-2.
Junior Cats quarterback Braden Khunkhun completed seven out of 13 passes for 149 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Running back Damon Froste had 13 carries for 86 yards and two scoress and, rounding out the offence, receivers Landon Janke had five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown and Justin Ruscheinsky had two catches for 49 yards and a major.
On the defensive side of the ball there were several standouts including Colin Charlton with nine tackles, Froste with six, Grayson Statham with 5 and Ethan Haber with four tackles. Janke returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown.
Junior Panthers Coach Sean Smith was happy to see some players step up and have a great game as some starters were out of the lineup. He noted Statham for his best defensive game and Janke’s 100 yards receiving and an interception for a touchdown. Coach Smith also mentioned Justin Ruscheinsky for a big showing on both sides of the ball.
Vernon will take on the Golds in Salmon Arm Wednesday, Oct. 9.
