The Vernon Rowing Club held their own at the largest Canadian Masters Rowing Championship at Burnaby Lake last weekend.
Dirk Sigalet won the 1,000-metre single men’s sprint with teammate George Foukal placing second.
Vernon’s quad team of Sigalet, Foukal, Stan Eaman and Ken Rice won gold in their event.
Eaman sprinted to third place in the 1,000m single, while placing second with Sigalet in men’s doubles, just ahead of Foukal and Rice.
The Vernon team showed remarkable strength and a high level of fitness with most of their races landing on day two, sometimes with less than an hour to recover between races.
The Vernon Rowing and Dragon Boat Club will hold its fourth Annual Dragon Boat Festival and Pledge Drive Saturday, Aug. 16, at Kal Beach. Money raised from this event will go towards breast cancer research.
