Two Vernon schools will lookto qualify for the quarterfinals Friday at the B.C. High School Senior Girls AAA Volleyball Championships in Powell River.
The Vernon Panthers will meet the Mark Isfeld Ice of Comox at 11 a.m. in a round-of-16 matchup (all 16 teams get a shot at qualifying for the championship eight), while the Seaton Sonics will face the Nanaimo Islanders at 1 p.m.

Seaton went 2-1 to finish second in its preliminary round pool (the Islanders were third in its group), and VSS went 1-2 to finish third in its pool (Isfeld was second).
The Sonics opened the provincials with a 25-18, 25-18 loss to Vancouver’s Little Flower Academy, then rattled off wins over Campbell River’s Timberline Wolves (25-15, 25-17) and the D.W. Poppy Redhawks of Langley (25-13, 25-22).
The Redhawks are a last-minute fill-in, replacing Prince George’s College Heights Cougars. The team was involved in a bus crash near Cache Creek on their way to the provincials and decided not to proceed after the accident.
VSS dropped its first two games, 25-14, 22-25, 15-8 to the Carihi Tyees of Campbell River, and 25-12, 25-27, 15-8 to the Crofton House Falcons of Vancouver before closing out the round-robin with a 25-23, 25-6 romp over the Robert Bateman Timberwolves of Abbotsford.
* The Vernon Christian School Royals are in a three-way tie for second place at 2-1 heading into their final preliminary round game Friday morning at the 20-team B.C. High School Senior Girls A Championships in Nanaimo.

The Royals opened with an 25-18, 20-25, 15-10 loss to the Southpointe Academy Titans of Tsawwassen, then defeated the Ecole Jules Verne Albatross of Vancouver 25-13, 25-11, and the Elkford Celtics 25-19, 14-25, 15-13.
VCS closes out the preliminary round against the Campbell River Christian Cougars.
