Along with the X Games, the Dew Tour is considered one of the top contests of the season for halfpipe and slopestyle athletes.
Vernon’s own Elena Gaskell will take to the Breckenridge, Col. powder Dec. 13 to Dec. 16 as the town hosts the best freeskiers from across the globe.
“The platinum event for the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP) returns this year with a creative format showcasing unique and progressive competition courses,” said Dominique Ladouceur of Freestyle Canada. “This year’s Superpipe course has been redesigned, offering a variety of freestyle elements and creating a longer, more diverse competition. The Slopestyle course is divided into two sections, Jibs and Jumps.”

In all, nine skiers from Canada will be at the Dew Tour when it starts on Thursday, with the women’s slopestyle event kicking off four days of action. Gaskell will be the only woman representing Canada in that discipline.
On Friday, defending champion Cassie Sharpe (Comox) and teammate Rachael Karker (Erin, Ont.) tackle the halfpipe. That evening, Alex Bellemare (Saint-Boniface, Quebec) will display his creativity on the rails in the streetstyle contest. On Saturday, the men’s slopestyle team has its turn on the slopes; the event wraps up with the men again on Sunday on the modified halfpipe course.
