Vernon Vipers celebrate first OT win of season

The Trail Smoke Eaters comeback came up short in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Vernon Vipers

Vernon Vipers forward Mitch Andres sniped a shot over the glove of Trail Smoke Eaters goalie Adam Marcoux to give the Snakes a 3-2 overtime victory, their first win in extra time this season.

The Smokies battled back from a 2-0 deficit on goals by Jimmy Darby and Chase Stevenson but couldn’t complete the comeback in front of their home crowd at the Cominco Arena, losing their third straight game.

The Vipers pressed the Smokies right from the OT puck drop, and after Marcoux stopped Teddy Wooding on the doorstep, the Vipers capitalized on the ensuing face off. Elan Bar lev wise won the face off in the Smokies end and Andres slipped past the Trail defender and beat Marcoux glove side for the victory.

It was the first overtime win for Vernon in 10 tries this season.

The Vipers outshot the Smokies 26-24 and were 0-for-1 on the power play, while Trail went 0-for-2.
