Vernon’s two U12 teams each played two games last weekend. The first game between Vernon Thunder and Vernon Lightning had the Thunder coming out fired up and scoring a number of goals in the first period before the Lightning got going in the second period.
Thunder took the game 9 to 3 led by Cassidy Cruikshank with 3 + 1 and Emily Loose with 2 + 1, Georgia Stowards had two goals, Oliver Parilak and Makenna Pilon each had 1 + 1 and Keira Braddick also chipped in with one assist. Ebony Patrick was in net for the win. Scoring for the Lightning were Kate Holmes with two goals and Lucia Manton with one. Theryn Petty and Cali Fossum each had one assist.
On Sunday it was a different story for Vernon Lightning with an 8 to 1 win over Westside U12B-2. Avery Smith led the way with three goals followed by Abby Mahortoff and Cali Fossum each with 1 + 1. Theryn Petty, Kate Holmes and Kiera Horton each added singles with Claire Penner and Mara Corbett-Read assisting. Kassidy Peterson was in net for the win.

Vernon Thunder traveled to West Kelowna later on Sunday and had another 9 to 3 win against Westside Ice Devils. The scoring was again led by Cassidy Cruikshank with 3 + 2 , Poppy O’Brien had 2 goals, Makenna Pilon had 1 + 2, Hailey Robert had 1 + 1 with single goals counted by Keira Braddick and Georgia Stowards. Jasmine Lemke also had an assist. Goalie Ebony Patrick took her second win of the weekend.
Next weekend both teams are attending a tournament in Salmon Arm along with the U14B and U19 teams.
The Vernon U14A Venom struck gold last weekend at the Spirit of Winter tournament in Langley. Riding that win in the final, the Venom squad were exicted to take on the U16A Kelowna Elite, a new challenge for this group of girls.

Both teams checked hard in a very defensive game that saw a 0-0 tie until the last minute of the game when Makenna Jackson took a feed from Kristen Francks and pocketed a quick shot over the Elite goaltender’s shoulder.
The Venom added another from Jackson only 13 seconds later, giving the Vernon U14A’s a 2-0 win. Jordan Tung picked up the shutout. These teams will face each other in a rematch Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. at Kal Tire Place.
