Several students under Unity MMA head coach Raja Kler hit the podium in the Kamloops Super Cup tournament Dec. 15.

“(For) the season’s last tournament, a small team from Vernon came out and flexed their muscles,” Kler said. “The action got started with our little guys.”

Will King, six, battled five other young competitors and struck gold. Kyle “KJ” Watts, 14, won gold in the yellow belt division by way of a sweet flying armbar. Sophia Zerrath, seven, won gold in her division with matches against five other girls. Jo Zerrath, 10, won silver in his division as well.

Roman Mocherad, 15, took gold in advanced no gi action with two quick matches. And fighter Will “Billiam” Cohen, 17, took gold in the advanced no gi adult light heavyweight division.

“He had to be pumped in the adults fought up a weight class. He won both his matches with rear naked chokes,” Kler said. “I’m very proud of the team’s performance, and, it being the end of the year, I think it’s a great way to close out.”
