Vancouver Island Baseball Institute got to extra innings, but couldn’t get any closer.
Nanaimo’s VIBI Mariners went winless on a road trip to Kamloops this past weekend. The team fell 6-5 to the Okanagan Coyotes in extra innings to start Saturday’s action, then lost 8-7 to the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack in that day’s late game. VIBI lost 6-4 to TRU on Sunday and then lost the weekend finale 12-2 to Okie.
In the first game, Darren Kolk led the Mariners at the plate, going 3-for-4, and Cody Andreychuk had a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Luke Hawkins was the losing pitcher, allowing one unearned run in 1 1/3 relief innings.
The second game Aaron Witzke was 2-for-3 at the dish with two RBIs. Kolk hit a single and a triple and scored three runs and Tyson Dyck had a double, two walks and two RBIs. Kolk threw 2/3 of an inning in the loss, giving up one earned run.
Reiley Grose took the ‘L’ in Sunday’s early game, getting offence from Chad Schultz who hit a single and a double and Andreychuk who had two hits and two runs scored.
In the blowout loss, Greg Brady threw two innings, giving up two hits and an earned run. Kolk was 2-for-3 batting.
GAME ON … The M’s host the Coyotes for a four-game series starting Saturday (April 20) at 2 p.m. Sunday’s doubleheader begins at noon.
