The VIBI Mariners, after losing some close games last weekend, couldn’t help but lament missed opportunities.
All they can do is try to be better at seizing those opportunities moving forward.
Nanaimo’s Vancouver Island Baseball Institute team is in Lethbridge, Alta., on Saturday (April 23) and Sunday for alternating games against the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs and the University of Calgary Dinos.
It was the Dawgs who swept the Mariners last weekend at Serauxmen Stadium.
“It’s a game of failure and you’re not going to get it done every single time that there’s a man on second and none out. It’s part of baseball,” said Jordan Blundell, VIBI manager. “But you want to try and limit the amount of times that you’re unsuccessful in those opportunities and I think that’s something that we work on every week.”
The Mariners fancy themselves an offensive team, so they will pay attention to their discipline and approach at the plate this weekend.
“Hopefully [we’ll] do a little better job at a couple of those little things that can help put an extra run or two on the board,” said Blundell.
BASE LINES … The VIBI Mariners do not have any more home games this spring. The Canadian College Baseball Conference championship tournament will be held in mid May.
