Victoria swimmers picked for Team B.C.

A handful of swimmers from Victoria have been selected to compete with Team B.C. during the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games.

Rachel Sawchuk, Molly Gowans and Lauren Crisp will compete with the women’s squad, while Lucas Tyler will compete for the men.

In addition to the athletes, Rod Barratt was named the head coach for the women’s team.

Mike Flegel with SwimBC said this should be one of the strongest teams they’ve ever fielded at this competition.

“The selection committee used a selection criteria to choose a team that has strength and depth, and we were pleased that almost all of the swimmers nominated were able and willing to compete at this event for Team B.C.,” said Flegel.

“The swimmers represent almost every region across B.C.”

The Western Canada Summer Games are held every four years and bring together more than 2,500 athletes from four western provinces and three northern territories to compete in 18 sports.

This year’s Games will take place Aug. 5 to 16 in Fort McMurray, Alta.
