A big victory last month has vaulted Langley’s Shawn Murphy ranked fourth in the world.
The 51-year-old took top spot at Oregon’s world sixgun championships last month to move from sixth to fourth in the World Fast Draw Association rankings.
Murphy is a member of the Thunderbird Fast Draw Club which runs out of the Langley Rod and Gun Club.
And another Thunderbird member, Aldergrove’s Peggy Franks, won the women’s thumbing division contest in Oregon.
Thumbing is a new division where competitors can only use one hand to draw, aim and fire the revolver, which must be cocked using the shooter’s thumb.
Two other club members, Paula Murphy and Garry Porteous, also earned some hardware.
Murphy and Porteous won the awards for ‘best dressed western’ in their respective divisions, with Murphy also placing fourth in the women’s shooting competition.
