On Jan. 25, Hope hockey players had the opportunity of a lifetime.
They were invited to play against a stellar roster of Montreal Canadiens alumni, on home ice. Hundreds of fans showed up at the Hope Arena, both for the home team and the Habs.
Between shifts, The Standard was able to capture some interviews to share the excitement with our readers. We gave interviewing honours to Peter Adamo, a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan and a player on the Hope team. He spoke to the home team’s goalie, John Fortoloczky, who brought a long history of hockey experience to the game.
Adamo also spoke with alumni Steve Shutt, who was in Hope as the team’s coach. He said the alumni team enjoys getting around the country to play and visit with fans.
“We really like going into some of these smaller towns,” he said. “We’ve seen throughout the years that some of the biggest fans come from the smallest towns.”
Shutt has helped his team win five Stanley Cups over the years, prior to retirement.
