The Ravensong Waterdancers competitive synchronized swimming team will get an idea how it matches up for the coming spring competition season when it takes part in a training meet this weekend at Saanich Commonwealth Aquatic Centre.
“We have four meets a year,” said Carol MacFayden who has coached with the club since its inception in 1997. “There are two training meets, then we have our main competitions in April and in May.”
The provincial championships will be held in Kamloops in May, MacFayden said.
The Waterdancers club nearly 30 members in competitive, recreational and masters groups, ranging in age from seven to “one lady who is retired,” she said.
There are 13 competitive swimmers in the club, divided into two groups for this weekend’s training meet.
The U-10 team includes Bryn McGorman, McKinley Shworan, Peyton Howell, Claire Scott, Emelia Birchard, Aasiyah Mughal andAaminah Mughal, who are coached by Lisa Spaven.

The 13-15-year-old team, coached by MacFayden, includes Emily Mahony, Sydney Waldie, Miranda Sepos, Natalie Kjellbotn, Danyka Thorburn and Pascha Nemlander.
They will compete in group routines, as well as some duet and solo routines.
In addition to the competitive meets, the club hosts two free water shows a year at Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach, and offer a See it, Try it event for the public at the beginning of each season in September.
