The VIU Mariners had some big innings, but also some that weren’t as productive, and were able to win just one in a home series.
Vancouver Island University’s baseball club defeated the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack 13-7 on Sunday to cap off a four-game set in Canadian College Baseball Conference action at Serauxmen Stadium.
Earlier in the weekend, the Mariners had dropped Saturday’s series opener 7-6, then suffered 11-1 and 10-1 blowouts against the ‘Pack.
Sunday’s win was highlighted by a grand-slam home run by Ethan Dyck in the fourth inning. Dyck finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs. Tanner Hess, Colin Borrelli, Sam McPherson and Thomas Leaf also had two hits apiece in that game and Austin Gurr was the winning pitcher, allowing three earned runs over four innings.
