It’s been a while since the VIU Mariners have had PacWest league games in their home gym, but that changes in a big way this weekend.
Vancouver Island University’s volleyball and basketball teams will fill the gym for three days of Pacific Western Athletic Association action.
The Mariners volleyball teams start things off Friday, Jan. 17, with the VIU women facing the Douglas Royals at 6 p.m. followed by a men’s match at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the Mariners and Royals will play rematches with the women taking the court at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.
Saturday night, basketball tips off, with the Mariners women playing the Okanagan Coyotes at 6 p.m. and then the men playing at 8 p.m. The hoops action continues with rematches Sunday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Also of note, Saturday is ‘Make Some Noise for Mental Health’ day and fans are asked to wear blue and bring noisemakers.
