Vancouver Island University’s volleyball teams stepped back on the court as PacWest season now intensifies for the second semester.
VIU’s undefeated women’s team kept up its winning ways, sweeping the Capilano Blues in straight sets both Friday and Saturday at the VIU gym by scores of 25-23, 25-15, 25-20 and 25-7, 25-15, 25-22. Danielle Groenendijk had 11 kills in the first match and 10 in the second. Josie Heeney had 11 digs the second day.
VIU’s men won 25-16, 25-15, 25-20 the first day but lost in five sets Saturday, 27-25, 25-17, 19-25, 14-25, 15-12. Braydon Brouwer had 12 kills Friday and 13 Saturday and Teal Prince had 12 digs in the loss.
Both Mariners volleyball teams are on the road Jan. 11-12 at Columbia Bible College.
