Volleyball girls finish 15th

The Charles Hays’ senior girls volleyball team finished 15th at provincials last week.

The Charles Hays’ senior girls volleyball team gave it their best at provincials last week, but ultimately struggled against the tough competition, finishing 15th.

The girls did cap off the tournament with a win against David Thompson, avoiding a last-place ranking.

Going into provincials, the Rainmakers had no trouble with Northwest competition, but it’s always hard to tell how well that stacks up against the best teams in B.C.

In pool play, the girls lost to number three-ranked St. Patrick’s in two sets, 25-19 and 25-11 to kick off the tournament. Following that, the group fell to Pacific Academy 25-19 and 25-8. In the third game against DP Todd, the girls made things difficult. The first set was tied at 17-17, but DP Todd pulled away for the 25-19 win, and then also won the second set 25-17.

That led into the playoffs, where CHSS was put up against the eventual champions, MEI, who beat the girls in three sets, 25-7, 25-11 and 25-8.

The Rainmakers then fell to Brentwood 25-18 and 25-17 before matching up with David Thompson in the battle for 15th and 16th rankings. The girls had little trouble, dominating with 25-9 and 25-17 wins.

The team also had an opportunity to do some sight-seeing while in Vancouver, including touring the Vancouver Enchant, which is the world’s largest Christmas light maze and market.
