A local volunteer has been recognized for her contributions to the community as one of five recipients of the Fred Heslop Minor Hockey Week Awards.
BC Hockey announced Monday, April 24 the five winners of the 2016-2017 Fred Heslop Minor Hockey Week Awards. The awards recognize significant contributions made to hockey within B.C. and the Yukon by individuals who have gone beyond expectations.
Sharlene Check of the Alberni Valley Minor Hockey Association was one of the five winners. She was the only winner selected from Vancouver Island.
A selection committee chose the five winners from over 100 nominations based on the following criteria:
Has made significant contributions to minor hockey
Has enhanced hockey programs within their association
Has made remarkable achievements
Has gone beyond expectations
Demonstrated the compassionate character that Fred Heslop brought to the game through his contributions to hockey.
