The Vernon Vortex Speed Skating team continues to rack up the personal best times.

The Vortex racked up 20 personal bests last weekend in Salmon Arm for a tune up prior to the B.C. Winter Games Trials.

Peter Blokker broke his personal best in the 500m, set back in 2009, by a whopping five seconds, a great performance by the Master skater.

Youngsters Andrew and Ethan Blackmore picked up three best times in their first sanctioned competition,

Mattias Isobe also added three.  Nate Benn, Daniel Hall, Declan Fitzpatrick, and Tadhg Boyle all hit two best times and the ladies of the group, Laura Hall and Lauryn Eddy, each contributed one.

Eddy was able to find the “extra gear” when prompted to by her coach,  Michael Hall.

The Blackmore boys had a good first taste of competition with Andrew finishing second in division four. Daniel Hall was second overall in Division 5 with Isobe fourth and the veteran Blokker second overall in his division. To try speed skating, e-mail: vernonvortex@gmail.com.
