The W.J. Mouat Hawks dropped their season opener 32-28 Saturday at home to the Kelowna Secondary Owls despite a huge day of rushing from Jacob Dodd.
Dodd – who faces the daunting task of replacing Maleek Irons, B.C. high school football’s most prolific rusher – rushed for 203 yards on 29 carries and accounted for all four Mouat touchdowns. He also registered seven tackles on defence.
Hawks quarterback Noah Falconer completed seven of 10 throws for 73 yards. Elijah Falconer was the top receiver, making four catches for 42 yards.
On defence, Dion Pellerin led the way with nine tackles. Reuben Reardon, with six tackles, and Jarrod Jensen, with five tackles, also had strong games.
The Hawks travel to Coquitlam Friday to face Centennial secondary.
