Ryan Vest, 10, shot 86 at The Dunes.

The Sunday before, Vest won the Boys 9-10 title in the IMG Academy Junior World Championships qualifier at Langara in Vancouver.

Vest shot a 2-over 73 for a five-stroke victory over Ryan Liang of Vancouver and the top overall score for players as old as 18. There was a field of 11 in his division.

The qualifying win gives Vest a direct spot to the IMG Academy Junior Worlds, July 10-14, at Torrey Pines in San Diego.

His win also qualifies him for The Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at the PGA National Resort &Spa July 18-23, in Florida, but he will be unable to make that tournament.

Meanwhile, Keith Vandenbrink of Hillview has reached the round of eight in the Callaway Interior PGA Tour match play tournament.

Vandenbrink defeated Laurie Pierce of Two Eagles in West Kelowna 8up with seven holes to play in the round of 32 opening match at Black Mountain in Kelowna.

“Cool and sometimes rainy conditions, made for a long day,” said Vandenbrink.

In the round of 16 also at Black Mountain, Vandenbrink defeated Jake Pilon of Sunset Ranch in Kelowna 3 and 2.
