Walking on thin ice

Two people walk out onto Dutch Lake in Clearwater after going by signs warning of thin ice. Although at least one person is reported to have gone through the ice earlier, about a half dozen people were ice-fishing last Wednesday. District of Clearwater officials note that Dutch Lake Beach and the boat launch are closed to the public due to the weather and unstable ice conditions. People are reminded that going through the ice is extremely dangerous both for those who go through and for those who attempt to rescue them. The absence of warning signs on frozen over area waterways and lakes should not be taken to necessarily mean the ice is safe to walk on. Incidentally, the couple turned around shortly after the picture was taken.
