Over the next few weeks, Santa Claus will be busy at the North Pole. And the Comox Valley Glacier Kings will be busy in the North Division of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League.
The Comox Valley Sports Centre will be common ground for the two events, as Santa’s Workshop will be at the Glacier Kings’ next three home games accepting donations of new toys and cash. They will also be receiving half of the proceeds from 50/50 draws at those games.
The G-Kings, currently second in the North Division, host the fourth-place Oceanside Generals on Saturday, Nov. 19 then welcome the first-place Campbell River Storm on Nov. 26 and Dec. 3. All games are 7:30 p.m. starts at Sports Centre Arena #1.
The Glacier Kings are thanking fans for dropping off donations for Santa’s Workshop by giving them a chance to win a prize from a treasure chest.
“For every donation made, the donor will fish a key out of a bucket. Their mystery key will hopefully open the lock on the treasure chest,” a Yetis’ spokesperson explained.
“The treasure chest contains a variety of prizes, and the successful key holder can pick their choice of any prize inside. (There will be 20 different keys in the bucket that will open the lock).
“If the key is the one that opens the lock, it will be put back into the bucket, the treasure chest will be relocked, and the opportunity will be there for the next person to pick the right key out of the bucket,” the team spokesperson said.
The G-Kings will be donating half of 50/50 draws to Comox Valley Minor Hockey at their home games of Dec. 10 vs. Kerry Park Islanders, Dec. 16 vs. Victoria Cougars and Dec. 19 vs. Oceanside.
Meanwhile, Santa’s Workshop is up and running at 3573 South Island Highway – just south of Beachwood Road in Courtenay. To make an appointment to shop for your child, please call 250-897-0098. The workshop is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
“The shelves are looking a little bare, and our elves are really needing used toy donations,” a spokesperson said.
“Please clean out your cupboards and bring your gently used toys down to the workshop. We will gladly fix what needs fixing and clean them to get them into almost new condition. The sooner we get used toys, the more time there is to clean and do any needed repairs. As well, new toys and cash donations are most appreciated!”
