Wayland Trampoline of Maple Ridge took 19 athletes to compete at the Aaron Johnson Memorial Cup for trampoline and tumbling this past weekend in Burnaby.
The team started out the competition season strong, bringing home 20 medals in total.
A number of first-time competitors earned medals: Brooklyn Lee-McMeekan, gold for Level 1 12U tumbling; Chelsea Groves, gold for Level 1 13+ trampoline, silver for double mini and bronze for tumbling; Sahara Backeland, silver in Level 1 13+ tumbling; and Kaylan Wicki, silver in Level 10U double mini and trampoline.
Other medals: Sienna Kuznak, bronze in Level 1 12U tumbling and gold in Level 10U trampoline; Kaley McIsaac, a second-year competitor, silver in Level 1 12U tumbling and double mini.
Izzy Moys also won a number of medals, including a gold medal in Level 1 13+ tumbling and a bronze medal in Level 2 13U double mini, her first time competing at this level.
Madyson Dunster, competing for the first time in Level 3 14U, won a silver medal on double mini and a bronze medal on trampoline.
Destiny Christensen and Danielle Swanson, competing for the first time in Level 3 15+, also brought home a silver and bronze medal, respectively, on the double mini.
Danielle Swanson also won a bronze medal on tumbling in Level 2.
On the trampoline, Teagan Gratton won a gold medal in Level 3 15+, and Emma Johnston won a bronze medal in Level 2 13U.
The next competition will be the B.C. championships in Port Coquitlam in April.
