The Kootenay ICE continued their losing streak, making it nine straight losses over the weekend.
On Jan. 12, the ICE started a five-game road trip at Enmax Centre against the Lethbridge Hurricanes with a 3-2 loss.
It was scoreless the first two periods before an abundance of goals in the third.
Peyton Krebs opened up the scoring with his 15th of the year, but the high-powered Hurricanes tallied three back-to-back goals, including an empty netter by Jordy Bellerive.
Newly acquired Brandon Machado scored on the power play for the ICE, but it wasn’t enough.
Since coming over from the Saskatoon Blades, Machado has played in two games with the ICE and has a goal and one assist.
The ICE previously played the Hurricanes on Jan. 9 and lost 3-2, goaltender Jesse Makaj faced 54 shots. This time around the team cleaned up play in their own zone and Makaj faced 30 shots.
Makaj has played in 25 games this season and has a 2-14-4-1 record with a 4.09 goals against average and a 0.887 save percentage.
Continuing on their road trip, the ICE will be in Swift Current to play the Broncos on Jan. 15.
The ICE will be back to Western Financial Place on Jan. 26 when they take on the lead leaguing Prince Albert Raiders. It will also be their Pink the Rink Be a Superhero Anti-Bullying Game.
Fans are encouraged to wear pink for the game in support of anti-bullying. As well, players will be wearing special superhero jerseys to bring awareness to anti-bullying.
