Weekend’s Heat exposure hard on Sicamous Eagles

Chase crew drops Eagles in two game home-and-home series

The Sicamous Eagles may be suffering a bit of a heat rash after dropping a pair of back-to-back games to their KIJHL counterparts from Chase.

On Friday, Oct. 12, the Eagles once again welcomed guests the Chase Heat to Sicamous and District Recreation Centre.

The welcome was short-lived, however, as the evening saw the Heat rise to earn a 3-0 win over the home team. On Saturday, Oct. 13, it was the Heat’s turn to host the Eagles at Art Holding Memorial Arena.

Maybe it was the bus ride, the opportunity to take in a little of the Shuswap’s inspiring scenery, but on this evening, the Eagles proved a fiercer opponent for the Chase team.

Chase potted two in the first frame, owning a 2-0 lead going into the second period. The Heat’s Brendan Laing added a third to the tally.

At 13:01, the Eagles’ Justin Hodgson found the back of the Chase net with a goal off Aaron Plessis and Nicholas Cossa. Not long after, teammate Trysten Brookman followed suit with a goal off Colby Sherlock and Plessis. With the score at 3-2 at the end of the second period, the Heat and their fans had cause for concern.

The third-frame would be a nail-biter right to the final buzzer. At 5:52, the Heat added another goal, but any comfort derived from the team’s two-goal-lead was quickly diminished with a goal from Eagle Sebastien Archambault, assisted by Dallas Stewart and David Cloutier. Chase fans were overjoyed to hear the final buzzer and see Sicamous denied the win.

Eagles goaltender Cole Steinke was named “away star” after stopping a total of 29 shots on net.

Next up for the Sicamous Eagles is a home-ice tussle with the Osoyoos Coyotes on Friday, Oct. 19, followed by a trip to Princeton Saturday to throw off the Posse.
