The small community of Wells will be holding its 10th International Gourmet Ski on Saturday, Feb. 18. Combining nordic skiing with gourmet eating, and optionally including an International Mountain Film Festival, the Gourmet Ski is the premiere fundraising event for the Wells and Area Trails Society.
This annual event includes skiing across the meadows and Cornish Mountain trail network in Wells, while visiting food stations serving international cuisine. In addition, there is an opportunity to ski to additional ‘booty baskets’ for the adventuresome skier. The event is open to participants of all ages.
Limited to just 100 participants, the event draws people from cities across B.C.
The nordic route is designed with options to make the trip as short or long as the participants desire. In addition, and in the spirit of celebrating the joy of winter, skiers are rewarded with prizes for best costume as groups and individuals and a variety of other fun catagories.
The Gourmet ski starts behind the Bear’s Paw Cafe in Wells, and ends at the Jack O Clubs General Store. After the ski, participants have an opportunity to book a congratulatory dinner at the Bear’s Paw Cafe before heading to the historic Sunset Theatre for the Annual Mountain Film Festival. This evening event features a collection of outdoor adventure and culture films with commentary.
This non-competitive, family friendly event is run completely by volunteers and raises money for the development and maintenance of the Wells trail system. Come out for a day of cross country skiing with international food tasting “pit stops” along the way.
Registration is now open at: www.wellsbarkervilletrails.com.
