Two talented West Shore hockey products took a step forward in their careers last weekend.
Defenceman Dysin Mayo, who won a Memorial Cup this past season as a member of the Edmonton Oil Kings, and goaltender Alec Dillon, who stopped pucks for the Victoria Grizzlies last season, were both chosen in the fifth round of the National Hockey League’s 2014 entry draft.
Mayo was chosen 133rd by the Arizona Coyotes, while Dillon went 150th to the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings.
Mayo, a six-one, 180-pound blueliner who who turns 18 next month, will most likely remain with the Western Hockey League club next year.
He had 15 points in 21 playoff games for the Kings in 2014.
Dillon, 6-5, 170, posted a 2.76 goals against average and .911 save percentage in 33 games with the Grizzlies, then recorded a 2.56 mark with two shutouts in the B.C. Hockey League playoffs.
