The White Rock All-Stars’ quest for the title of Little League World Series champions came to an end Saturday, after the Peninsula squad fell to Asia-Pacific by a score of 16-4 in their second game of the tournament in Williamsport, PA.
Following a heartbreaking, one-run loss to Mexico Friday, in which pitcher Matthew Wilkinson struck out 16 at the plate, the White Rock All-Stars were left playing do-or-die in the double-elimination tournament.
The strong offense by the Asia-Pacific team – represented by Chinese Taipei – was too much for the White Rock All-Stars, who gave up nine runs in the first inning.
The White Rock/South Surrey squad – representing team Canada – managed to hold Asia-Pacific off the scoreboard in the second inning, however a flurry of home runs in the third and fourth innings sealed the victory for Chinese Taipei.
Saturday’s loss for the White Rock All-Stars sends the Peninsula team to play next in a consolation game Tuesday against the American Webb City, MO team, representing the Midwest region.
