The White Rock Tritons have made a hard charge up the standings of the BC Premier Baseball League after winning four of their last five games – including three last weekend on Vancouver Island.
On Saturday, the Tritons swept a two-game series with the Victoria Eagles, winning 10-1 and 3-2, before splitting a two-game set Sunday against Victoria’s other team, the Mariners. Earlier last week, White Rock also defeated the Abbotsford Cardinals 4-3.
The recent hot streak brings the Semiahmoo Peninsula crew’s win-loss record to 15-9, which is good enough for fourth in the 12-team league.
The star of Saturday’s victories was pitcher/designated hitter Allan Hogg, who led the team both at the plate and on the mound. In the 10-1 win on Saturday morning, Hogg went three-for-five at the dish with a run-batted-in and a run scored, as well as two stolen bases.
Then in the second game of the doubleheader, he took to the mound, where he went the distance for White Rock, striking out 12 Eagle batters in seven innings, while allowing just one earned run and three hits.
Against the Mariners Sunday, White Rock had 10 hits in a losing effort in the first game, before rebounding in the nightcap to edge the home team by one run.
In the win, all the Tritons’ runs came in the fifth inning, as eight hitters combined to score four times.
Brogan McDougall was credited with the win after pitching four innings of relief, striking out three while scattering two hits and allowing no runs.
On Tuesday, White Rock played the Langley Blaze after Peace Arch News‘ press deadline.
