A White Rock teen broke all three records in his division at the B.C. High School Weightlifting Championships this past weekend.
Semiahmoo Secondary’s Michael Hungerschafer, 18, broke records in the 85-kg division on Saturday with lifts of 110-kg snatch, 131-kg clean-and-jerk and 141-kg total lift, breaking records held previously by Semiahmoo Secondary’s Dylan Kiselbach in 2011 in snatch and total, as well as Claremont Secondary’s Amrinder Sahota’s 2006 record for clean-and-jerk.
Hungerschafer, the number-one ranked junior male weightlifter in the province, has held the title of B.C. High School Champion two years running with a Sinclair score of 284.141. He is ranked 22nd overall, out of 124 registered male lifters in B.C.
The South Surrey teen – who lifts for Semi Weightlifting Club under the guidance of coach Dieter Stamm – also holds all three records in the Jr. Doug Hepburn Weightlifting Championship and won bronze at the B.C. Senior Weightlifting Championship in December 2013.
