The Tri-Port Midget Wild had a two-game series against the Juan De Fuca Grizzlies at the Chilton Regional Arena in Port McNeill, losing an exhibition game 2-0 on Saturday and then tying the Grizzlies the day after.
The Wild got out to a bit of a slow start on Sunday in the rematch, with the Grizzlies scoring two unanswered goals in the first and second period.
The Wild fought back from that point on, as they were very determined not to lose again in league play.
Jessica Wadhams skated into the Grizzlie’s zone and crashed the net, banging in a rebound goal at 9:12 of the second period to cut the Grizzlies lead in half.
In the third period, the Wild started to fire the puck more often and also managed to restrict the Grizzlies’ shots on net, thanks to some great defensive plays from Tyanna Laming, Sonja Walkus, and Madison Van Will.
Captain Kerrigan Sharpe then found the net at 13:17 with a solid wrist shot from the slot off a great pass from line-mate Bree-Anna Henderson, tying the game up 2-2. The Wild kept looking for the go-ahead goal from there, but the Grizzlies’ goalie Kayleigh Rehman managed to shut the door and backstop her team the rest of the way until the final whistle blew.
The Wild have posted a 2-1-1 record so far this season and will be looking to add another win to their record against the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Saturday, Nov. 25 in Port Hardy at the Don Cruickshank Memorial Arena at 4:45 p.m.
