Williams leads Monarchs to title game

Local football product dominating competition in Alberta Football League

The football journey of Carson Williams isn’t over yet.

The former star quarterback of the Abbotsford Panthers and then the UBC Thunderbirds is now excelling on the gridiron with the Fort McMurray Monarchs in the semi-pro Alberta Football League.

Williams graduated from UBC in the spring and then travelled to Northern Alberta for the summer league. He helped the Monarchs to a record of seven wins and one loss, good for second place in the AFL.

The 2009 Abbotsford Senior High School product tore up the league statistically, leading the AFL in passing yards (2,721), touchdowns thrown (37) and total completions (140). Williams was also voted to the league’s first all-star team.

The Monarchs defeated the Central Alberta Buccaneers 43-7 in the AFL semi-final on Aug. 29 to advance to the AFL final on Friday. Williams and the Monarchs travel south to take on the Calgary Gators in Calgary for all the marbles.
