Williamson secures draw for Midget Vipers

Jagger Williamson scored with 2:46 remaining as the Vernon Home Building Centre Vipers salvaged a 5-5 draw with the NW Calgary AA Stamps in their home Midget Tier 1 hockey tournament Friday night at Civic Arena.

Williamson assisted on each of Vernon’s first four goals and was named game MVP. Layne Greene (2), Jacob Dolinar and Jeff Bochon rounded out the Vipers’ attack in front of Josh Evans (18 saves). Drawing other assists were Bochon, Griffin Fried, Zach Manton and Cole Woodliffe.

In other Friday Tier 1 action, Juan de Fuca stopped Vancouver 5-2, Prince George shaded Okanagan Hockey Academy 3-2, North Shore Winter Club thumped Fort St. John 8-3 and OHA blanked Juan de Fuca 5-0.

In Pee Wee Tier 4 tournament play Friday in Lake Country, Kord Haller scored shorthanded for the winner as the North Okanagan Knights outlasted the Summerland Jets 5-4.

Easton Hunter started the Knights off less than two minutes into the first period on a feed from Eli Dwyer. Michael Kormany blasted one in from the blueline later in the frame to make it 2-2 at the break.

The Jets recorded a pair of man-advantage goals to earn a 4-2 lead after two periods, but the Knights regrouped and replied early in the third when Brandon Matvenko converted a feed from Bryan Brew. Dwyer collected the equalizer with the Knights shorthanded, assisted by Dylan Huber. Brett Zbytnuik assisted on the winner.

Thomas Burton earned the win.
