Wilson’s walk-off single wins game for Jr. Blaze

Langley opens with victory on first day of U16 provincial baseball championships at McLeod Park

A two-out single from Dayton Wilson brought home Danny Hollins with the winning run as the Langley Junior Blaze opened the U16 provincial baseball championships with a 6-5 victory.

The Blaze were playing the North Delta Junior Blue Jays in the final game of the first day of the tournament on Thursday (Aug. 8), which is being held at McLeod Park.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Langley scored the next five runs — one run each in the second and fourth innings and three in the third — before North Delta plated three in the fifth to knot the score at 5.

Thomas Sloan earned the win, pitching the final three innings and allowing just one walk and no hits. He struck out four.

Brendan Holstrom led the offence with a pair of RBIs.

Hollins, Kevin Sengara and Ryan Lipscombe each brought home one run.
