The Greater Trail Swim Club is heading to Kamloops this weekend for the MJB Law swim classic to match up against the best swimmers in B.C. And Alberta.
Eight swimmers will compete from the new club including Maddie Green, Jennifer Chung, Aby Elwood, Eden and Dylan Kormendy, James Pilla, and Martin and Eric Gonzalez.
The format is much different than a summer meet with age categories split into 10 and under, and 11 and over, so the main focus of the team coach Cody Flegel is to have each swimmer achieve personal bests.
“This is their big shave and taper meet. Everyone is trying to go best times,” said Flegel.
The swimmers hit the pool today and return home Sunday.
Nine-year-old Dylan Kormendy is the top rated swimmers in the 10-and-under category, but with a special request from his coach, will swim in the 11-and-over division so he can get more swims in, but will be competing against swimmers much older.
“He’s that good, we’re going to Kamloops and he needs two swims,” said Flegel. “So Dylan will be going head-to-head with the best 12-year-olds in all B.C. and Alberta, but he’ll get to swim each event twice a day.”
