“Live your life and play the game so that when you need a friend, you can always count on your teammates.”
The famous quote by Jim Brown – named as the greatest professional football player ever – was written on the game program last Saturday and illustrates the heart of the Timberline Wolves football team.
The team stepped up, they depended on each other and they demonstrated to their supporters, their appreciation for the opportunity to play football, said team spokesperson Karen Chickite.
It was cloudy outside, but the Timberline Football Team worked hard to shine, winning 38 – 0 against Edward Milne, putting them at 3 and 0.
Brenda Leigh, Area Dr regional district director, was part of the crowd at Saturday’s game, cheering on the home team, and took center field at half-time, presenting each one of the grade 12 players who are playing their last year of Timberline football, with an engraved keepsake.
She also donated $4,000 to keep the team going.
And the Wolves give back, too. With the help of Save-On-Foods, after the game, the Wolves provided complimentary hot dogs and pop to the visiting team and their coaches before they got back on their bus to head home to Sooke.
In response to the gesture, their coach said, “You are such great hosts. We really enjoyed being here. Thank you.”
The next home game is Saturday, Oct. 27.
