Women’s water polo team take silver in South Korea

Abbotsford’s Alexa Tielmann and the Canadian women’s water polo team fell to the Australians in the gold medal match at the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea, on Monday July 13.

The two teams were tied at three after four periods of play, leaving the game to be decided by a penalty shootout.

Kelly McKee, Axelle Crevier and Kyra Christmas all had their shots saved by Australian goalkeeper, Lilian Hedges. Australia netted three of their four attempts to claim victory, 6-3.

The silver medal ending is an improvement on Canada’s fourth-place finish at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia.
