ARTISTS WITH chainsaws will carve up a storm in the Save-On-Foods parking lot starting Thursday, July 28.
Joerg Jung, a German wood carver who currently calls Thornhill and Terrace home, organized the carving demonstration with Save On Foods with the intention of giving the city of Terrace the final pieces to install as public art.
Wood carvers Pete Rieger from Quesnel and Ryan Anderson from Lakeport, California will show off their skills alongside Jung, starting at 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
The trio will carve wood sculptures with chainsaws rain or shine, and a barbecue will be provided by Save On Foods.
The event will include a watermelon eating contest Friday afternoon, July 29 and a speed carving contest the next day. Art pieces from the speed carving contest will be auctioned off.
The names of those who donated to the event at Jung’s preview demonstration will be drawn on Saturday, July 30, too. The grand prize is a large eagle carving, currently viewable at the store.
This is intended to be the first annual carving contest in Terrace. This year’s event cost $15,000, and money was raised through donations from business and community members. Carvers will perform until Sunday, July 31.
