The Wranglers had a home-and-home tilt with the Chase Heat last weekend in what was billed as the battle for first place in the Doug Birks Division.
Unfortunately, the 100 Mile House lads came up short in two exciting games and came away with one of a possible four points.
It was unfortunate for the young Wranglers squad, but it’s nothing to worry about.
As coach Dale Hladun likes to say, “It’s all practice until we get to the playoffs.”
The Wranglers travelled to Chase on Nov. 25 and played well and carried a 3-1 lead into the third period.
Wranglers goals were scored by Rob Raju (James Gordon); Sam Bosek (Austin Turner, Garrett Hilton) And Bosek (unassisted).
However, they gave up three goals in the third period, including two power play markers by the Heat late in the game.
Bosek was the Wranglers star of the game.
Back home on Nov. 26, the Wranglers had a 2-1 lead going into the third period, but couldn’t seal the deal as Chase tied the game with three minutes left on the clock.
Then with 2:49 left in the first overtime period, Chase scored a power-play marker for the victory.
Wranglers scorers were Alex Meeker (Ryan Friesen, Todd Bredo) and Raju (Gordon, Justin Bond).
Bredo was the game star for the Wranglers and the local boys outshot the visitors 38-27.
The Wranglers are still in second place in the division – four points behind Chase and two up on Kamloops. However, they have two games in hand on Chase and four on Kamloops.
The hometown lads start a three-game weekend road trip on Friday (Dec. 2), with games against the Kelowna Chiefs, the Osoyoos Coyotes and the Princeton Posse.
Then they’re back home against Kamloops on Dec. 7, with the puck dropping at 7 p.m.
