The 100 Mile Wranglers Society is preparing to enter a new phase of building support for a Junior B hockey team, which they hope to secure in the near future.
Phase 1 included getting a minimum of 300 commitments from the public for the purchase of season tickets if and when the time comes, and that goal was recently realized.
Society directors Tom Bachynski and Rick Takagi unveiled the second phase to business people who attended a South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Jan. 11 and the Rotary Club of 100 Mile House on Jan. 12.
Stage 2 involves establishing a sense of ownership for South Cariboo community members and that includes using their opinions on different aspects of the team formation process.
The society plans to post questions to the public on its website at www.100milewranglers.com and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/100milewranglers. Organizers are calling it Race to the Rink and respondents will be able to give their input and be eligible for prizes.
For example, while the Wranglers already have a team jersey prototype, the first question will ask people if they like the colours that have been chosen for the team. Team colours thus far are blue, yellow and white, which Bachynski says had traditionally been 100 Mile House Minor Hockey Club colours until recent years.
He adds it’s important to get community input.
“It’s not our team to make all the decisions for. We’re trying to lay out as many possibilities to the community and how they respond is how the team will go.”
The push for volunteers has also begun and people can check out the club website for a list of positions and folks can also sign up to help on the same site.
Some 40 people will be needed to work approximately six games each during the season.
