Wrestlers raise funds for Comox Valley Special Olympics

Pure Wrestling Association puts on a great show at K'omoks Band Hall

The Pure Wrestling Association made a triumphant return to the Comox Valley on Jan. 30 when they put on a fundraiser in support of Comox Valley Special Olympics. Organizers said there was a great turnout of fans and the wrestlers put on a really good show. The event raised just over $400 for CVSO, who had several members play important roles in the evening and enjoyed meeting the wrestlers.

“The PWA wrestling event was a really exciting evening and the Special O athletes were thrilled to be a part of it,” said CVSO spokesperson Agnes Knowles. “Several more athletes came as fans.

“The PWA organizers and the other wrestlers made sure our athletes were included in several different ways: we had an athlete on the door, others as guest bell ringer and special ring announcer, and one athlete was even invited to be a guest manager,” Knowles said.

“It was a completely successful evening and we are appreciative of being the recipients of a sizable donation from PWA based on their SRO event.”

Inside the squared circle, E.O. Mike Becherer defeated Super V-Los, BJ Laredo defeated Cremator Von Slasher to become the #1 contender for the B.C. Championship, Scott Steel defeated Matt XStatic, Lak Siddartha with The Goat 98.9’s own Rock Dawg defeated Barry Goode to remain Pure Violence Champion – after the match Siddartha and Rock Dawg put an “I Love the Comox Valley” T-shirt on Goode, a former Valley resident who now lives in Campbell River.

In other matches, Riea Von Slasher defeated Violet to remain VIPW Women’s Champion and Krofton, accompanied into the ring by Comox Valley Special Olympian Tristan McColl, defeated Ethan HD to remain British Columbia Champion.

The PWA website notes that after the B.C. title match BJ Laredo attacked Krofton and Ethan HD joined in. A slew of wrestlers came from the back and a brawl ensued.

This led to Cremator Von Slasher coming back to the ring and choke-slamming everyone in sight. BC Champion Krofton was spared, but BJ was hit last as the crowd erupted.
