The Cariboo Ski Touring Club is hosting the 31st Annual Elementary School Races, Feb. 16. This event is intended to encourage elementary–aged youths to participate in a fun-filled day of competitive cross country ski races and fun games.
For the day, the Cariboo Ski Touring Club’s facility (lodge, ski trails, snowshoe trails and adventure park) are open to members and non-members alike.
In the past, I have been thrilled to see this event grow to include 100 kids from the community including Wells and a group from Williams Lake. Our feedback has been very encouraging as youth have an opportunity to compete in fun competition with a lot of support from spectators and to be actively engaged the entire day.
In recent years, our club received some high profile attention including the elementary school races being chosen by Cross Country Canada to host an Olympian special guest in 2008 (only two clubs in Canada were chosen) and to be promoted in a television infomercial aired during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games on major networks.
With positive encouragement through supportive fun competition, we are hoping to produce enthusiastic future athletes here in our community.
